THE FOLLOWING CAT IS BEING CARED FOR IN A LOVING MCR FOSTER HOME.

Dexter is a huge boy with an even bigger purrrsonality! He knows what he wants, and that is usually wet food! He goes nuts for wet food and doesn't seem to be picky at all. He has dry food out at all times, and I give him wet food twice a day. He can be pushy with his wet food but not aggressive. I feed him and his foster sister on two small paper plates side by side. I tried feeding them across the room from each other so he couldn't steal her food. He just ran over there and took it! She was standing there like "now what?" When I put their plates close together, at least when he steals hers, she can just move to his plate. Sometimes he will take it back and other times he is satisfied with just one. One time, she tried to eat off his plate after he stole it from her, and he put his huge paw on her head and pushed her away! What a brat! He is a strong-willed cat who takes what he wants. He also thinks everything is his!

As you can see, he is a huge cat. I put a regular wet food can and a catnip tub beside him for reference. He has a huge head like a lion! He weighs 15.7 pounds currently according to the litter robot. He will use one if you have it, but he will also use any large litter box. I find the large totes you store things in under the bed are big enough. He needs more room than most cats, but he is a perfect gentleman with his bathroom habits. I have included photos of the ones I use and the dimensions. Deeper and larger is always best.

Some Maine Coons are super intelligent. I'm not saying Dexter isn't smart, but nothing holds his attention for long. Like not being satisfied with his plate of food. He always has to be moving. You can see he loves catnip, but even that doesn't sustain him for long. In the one video, he rolled in it and then had to attack his "sister!" She gives it right back, though! I tried giving him a squeeze up when he first got here. He had no clue what it was. Now he likes them but is kind of messy when eating it. While taking these photos, he got some on the back of his ear and some on his side hahaha That is mostly my fault though, as I was squeezing and he wasn't paying attention! If it isn't right in front of his face it doesn't exist. He's immediately looking for something else, probably more wet food!

Just like many other Maine Coons, he likes to play in his water bowl. He will splash it out onto the floor. I have a big rubber boot tray under it. A low and large tote would be good to set the water bowl down into to catch any water. The same tote that I use for a litter box would work for his water bowl too if you decide to go that route. Just don't wait like I did and have ruined laminate floors hahahaha!

This boy is a talker. He loves talking to you and for you to talk to him. He would be great company for someone who is alone and needs a companion around. He is gentle with kids and loves to be petted. He won't sit still for brushing so he can get a bit matted under his belly. Again, always moving! He often manages to pull them out himself. Sometimes I won't know he has a mat and I will find one on the floor! So he takes pretty good care of his coat on his own, but it's best to check every couple of days and brush him regularly. He is constantly moving and wanting attention, so it can be hard to brush him sometimes. Just keep at it and it'll be just fine.

Dexter has lots of toys in his room but I haven't seen him playing with them at all. I'm sure he will be more playful when he has a family with him to interact with him more.

Dexter had a few teeth removed at the end of December. He was diagnosed with stomatitis, which is inflammation of the gums. At his consultation, I was told he would have to have most or all of his teeth removed. Once he was under for surgery they noted that his teeth weren't as bad as they'd projected. Such good news! He did great and has done well since surgery. You'd never even know he had any pulled at all! He will need regular checkups and yearly dentals to make sure his gums are healthy. I have been giving him a product in his water to help keep his teeth and gums healthy. I will send it to you when you get him.

As you can see, he gets a bit crusty at the bottom of his nose sometimes. It's easy to just wipe it off. It could be a residual of his stomatitis. This can mimic sinus and respiratory issues, but he has a clean bill of health. He almost looks like he was born with a cleft lip, doesn't he? Who knows, but he doesn't have any issues because of whatever it is that makes him look this way. This big boy's quirky face and gorgeous blue eyes sold me on him. He is a looker for sure! Everyone who sees him falls in love with him. Is your heart the one he steals next?
