Ester is a kitty full of spunk and spirit and is equally blessed with outward beauty! She is the only female from a litter of four. Brothers Jasper, who is with another foster, and Samuel are also now available for adoption.

Ester’s tortoiseshell coat is a mottled mixture of orange, brown and fawn with a touch of tabby on her head. It is very striking and incredibly soft and silky. Since Ester is a tortie, she does have a bit of the classic, notorious tortitude showing up as wanting things her way, on her terms and in her own time. She is always busy playing and exploring, darting from here to there, playing a bit with one kitty and then another. She loves all things balls, track ball and feather chasers and the peek-a- boo hide and seek tunnel. Kitty kickers laced with a bit of organic catnip usually get a working out too!

Ester started life out with a “wonky” leg which the older couple who found her and her siblings thought was broken. The couple took her to a local clinic, the man sobbing while telling the clinic staff that they thought she might have to be euthanized because they could not afford the vetting to fix it. The clinic gladly accepted her saying they would find a rescue for the kitty, not yet named, and explained that euthanasia would probably not be necessary. Maine Coon Rescue was honored to get “the call”.

Ester’s left leg was not broken but had a severe infection in the tissue behind the femur creating a very irregular proliferation in the femur. Treatment with a Convenia injection every two weeks over a six-week period resulted in an amazing recovery of the femur. She still has a slight “limp” which does not create any mobility or climbing problems. It is probably only noticeable if you know to look for it. We all think it gives her character and is a symbol of survival. (Images of the Xrays taken over the course of her treatment can be seen in her photos. The adopter will receive complete doctor’s notes and X-rays on a CD when adopted.)

Ester has excellent litter box habits and a healthy appetite. She does a great job with her own grooming and can probably get by with just a weekly brushing. The foster has been able to clip her nails but in shifts because Ester gets impatient and wants to check out something she just spotted. She does very well with cats of all ages and both genders. She has not been exposed to dogs. There is no reason to believe that she would not do very well in a home with children four years and older.

Ester is a beautiful cat who will quickly steal your heart and pack it with love and joy. She comes with an old folklore belief that tortoiseshells bring good luck and financial prosperity to their owners and are known as Money Cats. Of course, this cannot be guaranteed but why take a chance? Adopt Ester with her spunk and spirit for the fun and love, and she may also increase your chances to live up to the legend!

Ester's adoption fee is $225. This includes spay, FVRCP vaccine, rabies vaccine, combo test (neg/neg), dewormer, flea prevention, and wellness visit before going to her new home. She also has a microchip registered to Maine Coon Rescue with the option of the adopter adding their name and contact information.

Ester is available for adoption within a 150 mile radius of zip code 25177. There is no transport fee if the adopter meets the transporter at least halfway; otherwise, there is an $85 transport fee.
